An investigation is underway into a worker's fall from the Dawsonville Highway bridge over Lake Lanier that sent the man to the hospital.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued a statement Tuesday, confirming the investigation is open after a worker fell 12 feet March 10, suffering injuries to his head and chest.
"The injured worker belongs to a company called International Rigging Group, LLC (bridge painting and sandblasting operations) from Tarpon Springs, FL," said Michael D'Aquino with OSHA in an email.
Crews were forced to shutdown the westbound side of the bridge to rescue the man, causing traffic to backup during the busy rush hour.
The 29-year-old worker was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in serious condition.
"We have been assured that he would make a full recovery," said Mohamed Arafa with the Georgia Department of Transportation in an email.
