CLEVELAND — With only four days since he qualified to be a candidate for chairman of the White County Board of Commissioners, Joe Campbell  of Cleveland has withdrawn his name as a candidate.

Campbell submitted an affidavit expressing his desire to withdraw with White County Election Superintendent Garrison Baker Monday morning.
Campbell, who has six grandchildren, said after additional consideration he wants to spend more time with them.

"At 66, I just decided it’s something I didn’t need to do at this time," Campbell said. "I’ve enjoyed it in the past. This time after thinking about it a little bit more I decided I didn’t want to do it."

Campbell would have faced incumbent Commission Chairman Travis Turner in the May 24th party primary.

Turner, after receiving word  of Campbell’s withdrawal, said, “I’m  now very humbled that I can run without opposition, and look forward to seeing several projects completed."

He further stated, “ I wish Joe the best in his future endeavors.”
