Setzer holds off challengers for Dillon PASS South win

By Series PR

DILLON, S.C. - Brandon Setzer survived a hard fought battle for the lead with Jody Measamer and Kodie Conner to claim his second career PASS South Super Late Model victory in the 11th Annual South Carolina Clash Saturday afternoon at Dillon Motor Speedway in Dillon, S.C.

“Our car was just so tight and have to just apologize to Jody Measamer, he was holding me down and I had to hit the gas to get it turn and I got into him,” said Setzer of contact that sent Measmer around late in the race. “We weren’t that good early today and my guys made some great adjustments to get the car better. We’ve got some great momentum going into our next PASS race at Hickory and a win there gets you locked into the Oxford 250, so how sweet would that be?”

In qualifying, Setzer claimed the quick time with a lap of 89.552 miles per hour around the tough 4/10 mile, egg-shaped speedway. Setzer’s good fortune continued during the top 10 qualifiers redraw as he would draw pill number one to start alongside rookie Kodie Conner for the 125 lap event.

At the drop of the green flag, Setzer would quickly jump into the lead, while Measamer moved around Conner to settle into the second position. The race went green for the entire first half, until Derek Scott, Jr. went hard into the outside wall on lap 73.

Following the restart, Setzer and Measamer raced hard for the lead, with Measamer inching out ahead at the start/finish line. As the two continued to battle for the lead, Setzer got loose exiting turn four and made contact with Measamer, sending Measamer’s Chevrolet around.

Following Measamer’s problems, Conner would assume the challenge against Setzer. Like Measamer, Conner had success against Setzer on the outside, but Setzer was able to get the better of Conner with an aggressive move in turn four to hold on to the lead.

Setzer would lead the rest of the way to take the win over Conner, Jared Irvan, Tate Fogleman, and Trevor Noles.

Matt Craig, Measamer, Raphael Lessard, Jeff Batten, and Jody Lavender rounded out the top ten.

Chad McCumbee scored the Late Model win over Bobby Gower and Jeff Melton, while Michael Rouse claimed the Pro 4 Cylinder win.

The PASS South Super Late Models will be in action once again for 125 laps as part of the inaugural Southern Sizzler on Saturday, March 19th at Concord Speedway in Concord, NC, along with a 150 lapper for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
