Storms could bring damaging winds, flooding to Georgia

ATLANTA (AP) Forecasters say parts of Georgia will be under a slight risk of severe weather, which has the potential to produce isolated tornadoes.

The National Weather Service expects parts of western and southwest Georgia -- including Columbus and areas west of Macon and Albany -- to be under the greatest storm threat from around dawn Tuesday to dawn Wednesday.

Then, from around daybreak Wednesday into Thursday morning, the greatest threat of severe storms is expected to shift to east and southeast Georgia, including Augusta, Dublin, Savannah, Waycross and Valdosta.

Forecasters say heavy rain could lead to flooding.

They say Atlanta could see a total of 3.4 inches of rain from Monday through Wednesday.

Athens, Cartersville, Covington, Dahlonega, Gainesville, Griffin, LaGrange and Newnan could also see more than 3 inches of rain during the period.
