Cromartie to be honored by Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia

The Girls Scouts of Historic Georgia will honor Julia W. Cromartie as their Gainesville Woman of Distinction next month.

Cromartie was selected as the 2016 honoree, a release from the Girls Scouts said. They will host their annual award luncheon on March 15.

Cromartie was selected as the 18th Woman of Distinction for her dedication to the community and passion for serving others. Cromartie has served on numerous boards, is one of the founding members of the Elachee Nature Center, Gateway Domestic Violence Center, WomenSource and Theatre Wings, the release said.

She also served on the Grand Jury to study Lake Lanier, and has served as a professor and faculty member at Brenau Academy and Gainesville State College. She holds a B.A. from Emory and a graduate degree from what is now the University of North Georgia.

In 2009, Cromartie was selected as Rotary Woman of the Year.

“Julia is a person who has made a significant positive impact on this community. Preferring to stay under the radar, she has been instrumental in many organizations that have benefited the people of Gainesville and Hall County,” committee member Dr. Martha Nesbitt said in the release.

The luncheon will be at the Chattahoochee Country Club on March 15, starting at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $50 and will benefit the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia.
