Tanger Outlets in Commerce recently showed its thanks and support to several area agencies. During a brief ceremony, Tanger made separate $500 donations to the Banks County Sheriff’s Department, the Banks County Fire Department, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County Rescue and the Maysville Fire Department.
“We are very proud to show our support for these wonderful organizations that mean so much to our community,” stated Mark Valentine, General Manager of the Tanger Outlet Center in Commerce. “These men and women give of themselves all year long and help make both the Banks and Jackson County area a great place to live and work. They are the real heroes in our community.”
In what has become an annual tradition at every Tanger Outlet Center across the country and in Canada for 20 years, individual check presentations were made recently with each agency.
“Receiving the support of local businesses like the Tanger Outlet Center is very important to each of us”, remarked Sheriff Janis Mangum, of Jackson County. “The money donated by Tanger will be used for a Special Projects Fund that is earmarked for a educational program called “CHOICES,” said Mangum. Meanwhile, Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed said that the funds will be directed to a program in the school system called “CHAMPS” (Choosing Healthy Activities – Methods Promoting Safety). In addition, Banks County Fire Chief, Robert Wilkins, said that the funds will be used to help purchase a new Sparky Suit and to smoke alarms to be given out in the community.
“Being actively involved and supporting the communities where we do business is very important to Tanger, and has been since the Center first opened in Commerce in 1989,” remarked Valentine.
