Wrestling: 35 area grapplers will try to pin down state titles

DULUTH — It promises to be a busy day Saturday for northeast Georgia wrestlers as nearly three dozen grapplers will try to pin state titles at the Infinite Energy Center in Gwinnett County.

In all, 35 wrestlers advanced. But no team will be busier than Commerce, as all 14 Tigers advanced to the championship match in Class A.

Tucker Flint (106-pounds), Kole Burchett (113), Jacob Brewer (120), Dylan Deaton (126), Dalton Flint (132), Austin Brock (138), Owen Brown (145), Nick Patrick (152), Chase Forrester (160), Knox Allen (170), Cole Chancey (182), Dontavious Mosley (195), Michael Patton (220), and Cade Ridley (285) will try to pull off a clean sweep for Commerce, who is the defending Class A state champion.

In Class AA, Rabun County's Peyton Backer will try to capture the 285 title.

In Class AAA, Jefferson had eight push through to the finals. Ian Statia (106), Dawson Bates (113), Mitchell McGhee (120), Tanner Thurmond (132), Will Ballard (152), Caleb Little (182), Deshon Lester (195) and Nick Holman (285) all advanced. Banks County had Chris McCrackin (138) and Dylan Gouine (170) advance. McCrackin, a senior, is going for his fourth state title. Jacob Lindenmeyer (145) of East Jackson will take on Brown of Jefferson while Zach Matthews of Lumpkin County will take on Jefferson's Patton in 220-pound final.

In Class  AAAA, Buford and North Hall each had three advance to the finals. For the Wolves, Logan Ashton (106), Jack Barber (145) and Jake Ness (195) all pushed through while Michael Carew (160), Nick Whitmire (170) and Isaiah Hale (182) advanced for the Trojans. Chestatee's Marvin Cunningham (138) also advanced.

In Class AAAAAA, Habersham Central's Andrew Burpee (126) will go for the title.
