Student charged in Franklin County High School threats

Officials are continuing their investigation into a threatened shooting at Franklin County High School in Carnesville.

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas said in a statement that pictures and texts related to the online threat were seen by a student on the social media site Kik. That student told parents, who reported the threat to 911 on Monday.

"Within an hour from this report, the student who posted the threats had been identified and detained in the high school office," Thomas said. "The school SRO officer, school and district administrators all worked seamlessly together to handle the incident."

Digital evidence of the threats was collected and a sole suspect was identified, Thomas said.

"The suspect, a juvenile, was taken into custody and charged with terroristic threats and acts," Thomas's statement reads.

Thomas said he appreciates the support of local emergency services and law enforcement personnel.

"We also commend the student who reported the threats and the parents who notified 911," Thomas said. "The safety of our students and employees depends on this kind of teamwork and communication."

No additional details of the threats toward Monday's midday activities at the school have been released at this time.

No weapons were located.
