Gwinnett County Police said the suspect accused of bilking an Auburn man out of thousands of dollars in a Internet vehicle purchase scam was captured on camera withdrawing some of the money.
The victim, according to police Corporal Michelle Pihera, was trying to buy a 2013 Infinity QX56 from an out of state dealer. On November 3, he wired $31,400 to a BB&T account at the direction of the SUV's seller.
"He was told the vehicle would be delivered within the following week, however the vehicle was never delivered and the seller stopped all communications," Pihera wrote in a news release.
Authorities traced the money to a bank account that was opened by an individual under a fake identity .
Police Tuesday released surveillance photos of the suspect withdrawing some of the money at the BB&T branch at 3485 Braselton Highway in Dacula. Money was withdrawn from the account at several metro Atlanta locations, according to Piherra.
A Crime Stoppers reward of up to $2,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in case. (Case number 16-105330)
