CORNELIA — Cornelia City Manager Donald Anderson announced Thursday the closure of a portion of Berry Street due to a sinkhole.
"The closure is because of a sinkhole at the intersection of Berry Street and South Main Street," a statement from Anderson reads. "The sinkhole was caused by a failing drainage culvert."
Berry Street is closed between Oak Street and South Main Street until further notice.
Carter & Sloope, the city's engineering firm, is developing a plan for the necessary repairs, according to Anderson's statement. The city will begin working on the repairs once the plans are completed.
