By The Associated Press

ATHENS — The Georgia football team has been extended, and accepted, an invitation to play in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Friday, December 30, with a 12:00 noon ET kickoff against TCU from the Big 12.

The game will be played at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium and be televised by ESPN.

The Bulldogs have made three previous trips to the Memphis bowl game. N.C. State defeated Georgia, 14-7, in the 1967 game; Georgia came out on top of Arkansas, 20-17, in the 1987 game; UCF defeated the Bulldogs, 10-6, in 2010.

This will mark the fourth time Georgia and TCU have played.  The Bulldogs defeated TCU, 40-26, in the January 1, 1942 Orange Bowl, and recorded regular season victories in 1980 (34-3), and 1988 (38-10). The 1942 Orange Bowl was Georgia’s first bowl game.

"We look forward to representing the SEC in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis and competing against TCU,” said UGA J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Greg McGarity. “Rarely do we face an opponent from the Big 12, and we look forward to this matchup. Steve (Ehrhart), his staff and volunteers will take great care of our team, administrative staff and Bulldog fans."

“The opportunity to play an outstanding team in TCU is an exciting challenge for our coaches and players,” said UGA head coach Kirby Smart.  “This will be my first trip to the game as a player or coach but the Liberty Bowl has a long history of providing a quality bowl experience that I’m sure our players and fans will enjoy.  We will face a quality Big 12 opponent in TCU and I’m sure Coach Patterson will have them at their best on December 30.  We are anxious to begin practice and preparations for the trip to Memphis.”

This will be Georgia’s 52nd bowl game appearance -- fourth most of any team in the country. The Bulldogs’ all-time bowl record is 29-19-3. The Bulldogs’ 52 bowl games ranks fourth nationally and the 29 wins ranks third.
