Prostitution operation nets 8 arrests in Banks County

The Banks County Sheriff's Office arrested eight people as part of a prostitution and human trafficking investigation last week.

The operation was conducted at a cooperating hotel in the Banks Crossing area near Interstate 85.

Those arrested and the respective charges include:

♦ Tammy Latrell Carter, 43, Commerce — pimping;

♦ Christine Leann Thompson, 31, Clarkesville — pimping, giving false name and date of birth;

♦ Brian Cunningham, 29, Gainesville — possession of methamphetamine;

♦ Marteka Irby, 24, Toccoa — possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, possession of cocaine;

♦ Kelly Nost, 34, Portland, De. — pimping;

♦ Jeffery Moore, 28, Union City — possession of marijuana equal to or less than one ounce;

♦ Brianna Michelle Wimpy, 25, Athens — pimping;

♦ Monico Antonio Harris, 35, Athens — possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

"Prostitution, pandering, drugs or any other criminal activity will not be tolerated inside the county," said Sheriff Carlton Speed. "Banks Crossing is a place for good people to eat, shop and rest for awhile. Our citizens and the business owners depend on the revenue brought in by the businesses in the Crossing. Our continued special operations in the area will prevent the exit from becoming like so many criminal-infested exits along our interstate system."
