Last second trey by Tigers downs Piedmont men on the road

SEWANEE, Tenn. — Thanks to a last second three-pointer by the Tigers' Jorden Williams, Piedmont dropped its road contest to Sewanee 52-51 Tuesday night. Piedmont led by four with 3:20 to go but three turnovers in the final three minutes gave Sewanee the opportunity to take the victory. 

It was a close contest throughout as neither team led by more than seven in the game. Piedmont led the game 6-2 early on and went up 13-7 with 13:16 remaining in the first half thanks to a JUSTIN VALLEJO 3-pointer. 

Sewanee then went on a 12-0 run to take the lead 19-13 but Piedmont stormed back and a TAYLOR MILLS three made it a 21-20 Piedmont lead at the half. Sewanee tied it up shortly after the second half began and took a brief lead, but Piedmont came back to take the lead with 17:38 to go and kept the lead until the final two seconds. 

The Lions led by as many as seven with 5:22 to go after a pair of KELLY ASSINESI free throws but saw the lead dwindle as Jorden Williams scored the final 12 points of the contest for Sewanee including the winning 3-pointer with two seconds to go. 

Turning Point
--The Tigers got the ball with 16 seconds to play after a Piedmont turnover and called a timeout giving Williams the chance to seal the victory for the Tigers. 

Standout Performances
--Both JUSTIN VALLEJO and CHASE ENGLAND scored 16 points in the contest accounting for 32 of Piedmont's 51 points. 
--Jorden Williams led all scorers with 25 points in the game scoring just less than half of the Tigers' points. 

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont had 15 turnovers in the contest accounting for 17 points for Sewanee while the Tigers had 11 turnovers leading to 13 points for the Lions. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont is now 6-5 against Sewanee and is 3-2 against the Tigers on the road.
