White County officials confirm fourth case of rabies

CLEVELAND — White County Environmental Health has confirmed another case of rabies in the county.

White County Environmental Health Manager Sean Sullivan reported that two adult cats and four kittens had contact recently with a rabid fox in the Asbury Mill Road area.

The fox was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab Virology Section in Decatur.

The environmental health office was notified Monday afternoon that the fox tested positive for rabies.

Sullivan said this is the fourth confirmed case of rabies in White County this year. Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid fox was located.

People who live in the identified area and have concerns of rabid animal exposure should contact White County Environmental Health at (706) 348-7698 during normal business hours.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies, Sullivan said.
