18-acre retail, housing development coming near Suwanee Town Center

After a year's worth of tweaking and modification, an 18-acre mixed used development has gotten final approval from the Suwanee City Council this week.

The project, which will be located adjacent to Chicago Street along Buford Highway (south of Town Center Park), will include street level retail with apartments above it and a 70-unit townhome development, according to Marty Allen, city manager.

Over the course of the project's life, developers at Lynwood Development added more land to the project, necessitating delays and multiple votes before the council.

Council approved the motion at its meeting Tuesday evening.

City staff had recommended approval of the plan, which had only a few "minor adjustments," according to Allen.
