Presidential election: Where NE Georgians put their money

Northeast Georgians made contributions totaling $400,000 to the leading presidential candidates prior to the Nov. 8 election, according to federal records.

The latest data from the Federal Elections Commission, shows that in the 305 zip codes, 1,826 contributions for Donald Trump totaled $268,000.  Hillary Clinton received 1,906 contributions, totaling $132,000. The 305 zip codes includes places such as Braselton, Sugar Hill, Blue Ridge, Clayton, and Gainesville and surrounding areas.   Twenty-three candidates are listed in the 305 zip code filings with the FEC.  The report shows they received $693,000 in contributions.

Statewide, the amount collected for all presidential candidates was $15.4 million - including $6.2 million for Clinton and $3.6 million for Trump.  More than half of Clinton's total - $3.4 million - came from the 303 zip codes in Atlanta.  Trump collected $783,000 from 303 and $863,000 from the northern suburbs in the 300 zip codes.  Clinton took in $1.3 million from the 300 zip code areas.

Among other candidates, statewide, contributions for those seeking the Democratic and Republican nominations, ranged from $3,600 to $1.2 million for Republicans Bobby Jindal and Ted Cruz, respectively.  Bernie Sanders, the only Democratic candidate showing up on the list of donations from Georgia, picked up one million dollars from his supporters.  Contributions to Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson totaled $94,000.

Little-known independent candidate Evan McMullin showed up on the list of Georgia contributors, pulling in $1,555 to finish at the very bottom.
