Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas is crediting his deputies with pulling a mother and her child from a burning car on Ga. 59 Saturday night.
Deputies were attempting to stop the red Honda for traffic charges on Ga. 59 when it burst into flames, Thomas said.
"Deputy Antwone McCurry removed the driver and her 2-year-old child out of the vehicle before it was fully engulfed with flames," Thomas said. "Deputy Brian Stovall arrived at the scene to assist. Great job!"
The fire department responded and extinguished the fire.
"Deputies actually saved the young mother and her child's lives by removing them from the car," Thomas said. "It is part of the job to respond and assist the public. It is a good day when you can save two lives."
Thomas said no citations were written after the fire.
"Our main concern was for the safety of the driver and her child," Thomas said.
