Cornelia business takes advantage of Façade Grant

By AccessWDUN staff

North Main Credit Union received a Façade Grant from the Cornelia Downtown Development Authority when its building was repainted and new signage added. The firm is located at 255 North Main Street in  Cornelia.

CEO Melany Ward said, “North Main Credit Union is extremely honored and appreciative to have received the $1,500 façade grant from the Cornelia Downtown Development Authority. The DDA’s investment in its local businesses is invaluable. We are excited to become a part of downtown Cornelia and look forward to becoming a valuable financialresource in our community.”

The façade grant is a reimbursable grant available for downtown business and property owners. In order to qualify for the grant, the business or property owner has to get the project approved by the Cornelia Downtown Development board prior to any work being done. Once approved, the project must be completed within 120 days.

Upon completion, the Board will review all receipts and final results of work prior to issuing grants. The Cornelia Main Street Façade Grant is for up to 50 percent of project cost with a maximum cap of $1,500. North Main Credit Union received the full $1,500 reimbursement for the improvements it made to the exterior of the building.

According to a news release from the development authority, implementing a façade grant program helps Cornelia Main Street meet the annual standards of downtown revitalization efforts that are required to remain accredited as a Georgia and National Main Street program. The authority is currently looking for private partnerships and local stakeholders to help continue these revitalization efforts.
