DAWSONVILLE — As a sophomore, Coey Watson helped lead Dawson County football's historic 2015 campaign that saw the Tigers claim their first ever region title and first state quarterfinal berth.
Needless to say expectations were high for Watson's junior campaign.
Instead of weighing the signal caller down, however, Watson has revelled in the pressures of being both a standout player and a team leader.
A true dual-threat, Watson has passed for 1,168 yards and 12 touchdowns against just 2 interceptions, while also rushing for 440 yards and 12 scores -- playing a huge part of a 5-1 Dawson County team that is tied for first place in Region 7-AAA.
The quarterback put up up perhaps his most efficient and deadly performance of the season so far in last week's 52-13 destruction of Fannin County, as Watson went 10 for 15 through the air for 253 yards and 5 touchdowns.
For his efforts, Watson has been named the Locos Grill and Pub Friday Game Night Player of the Week.
The Tigers will look to keep rolling this week when they travel to face East Hall in another region showdown, and it's a safe bet that Watson will once again play a key role for Dawson's versatile attack.
