Lakeshore Mall in Gainesville will stay closed on Thanksgiving Day

By B.J. Williams
Add Lakeshore Mall in Gainesville to the list of properties going against the trend of opening on Thanksgiving Day for holiday shopping.

CBL & Associates Properties made the announcement this past week via press release.

“We want to bring back the excitement of Black Friday shopping as the true start of the holiday shopping season and allow our employees, retailers and shoppers to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with their families,” said Stephen Lebovitz,  CBL President and CEO.

“After evaluating feedback from our mall employees and retail partners as well as input from our shoppers, we determined that this was the best decision for our properties.”

The company said any stores or movie theaters with exterior entrances at their properties will have the option to open on Thanksgiving Day. The malls, themselves, however, will not open until 6 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving.

CBL operates a total of 89 shopping malls across the country.

Four of those are in Georgia - Lakeshore Mall in Gainesville, Arbor Place in Douglasville, Valdosta Mall in Valdosta and Walnut Square in Dalton.
