UPDATED: Two men seriously injured in Forsyth County construction accident

By B.J. Williams
Authorities in Forsyth County are investigating an accident at a construction site on the west side of the county where a crane apparently hit an electrical transmission line.

Two men, whose ages identities have not been released, suffered life-threatening injuries when the base of the crane, which they were standing on, became electrified, causing severe burns to their bodies, said Jason Shivers, Forsyth County Fire Division Chief.

Both men were airlifted from the scene at Moss Creek Estates to Grady Hospital in Atlanta for treatment.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the incident, which occurred around 9 a.m.

"As you would expect, it was a very busy scene at the time. All hands were working when we had two patients with extensive injuries and trying to get two (medical) helicopters on the ground," said Shivers in a phone interview.

Sawnee EMC spokesman Blake House confirmed the accident knocked out three substations, affecting several thousand customers. At this point, all power has been restored.
