PHOTO GALLERY: Public Safety monument put into place in Roosevelt Square

A crane was brought in Tuesday morning to move the granite slabs into place that comprise a monument to public safety officials of Hall County, which now sits in the Roosevelt Square in downtown Gainesville.

The monument, which is part of a larger water feature, is part of a revitalization effort in the area just off Jesse Jewell Parkway, next to the old city hall. The plan includes a lawn area and a stage.

"The city decided — rather than just add the monument, why don't we think about improvements to the entire square," said Dale Jaeger, landscape architect for the project.

The monument is sponsored by the rotary clubs of Hall County, South Hall and Gainesville, and the area surrounding the monument will include inscribed bricks from various donors.

The project is expected to be completed by late November.

"We're on schedule. (Tuesday) was a big day, because we had to bring the monument into the site (with a) huge crane," said Jaeger. "We're also placing these large boulders, which will be seating."

A dedication is scheduled for December 8 for the completion of all the renovations.
