The superintendent of Hall County Schools described Friday morning's wreck between a school bus and a truck as a "significant accident."
Will Schofield said the accident happened on Mundy Mill Road at Creekside on Mundy Mill Apartments. The bus had stopped on the southbound side of the road to pick up students.
Schofield said a, "fairly significant truck," hit the back of the bus, which he said was stopped and had its lights on.
"The bus and the truck, probably looks like they were pushed ahead 25 to 50 feet on the road. Fortunately no children were loading at that time, but both vehicles sustained significant damage."
First reports of the collision came in around 7:15 a.m. 30 students were on the bus at the time of the accident and three reported minor injuries, according to school system spokesman Gordon Higgins. No one involved in the accident was transported to the hospital, Higgins added.
"We've got a couple of kids that are saying they're a little sore, but for the most part, we were extremely fortunate."
Schofield said a couple of principals arrived on the scene to help get students to a safe area and assess them. He said all parents had been notified.
"We checked out a handful of student to their parents that showed up, and the rest were put on a replacement bus and taken to Oakwood Elementary School."
The school bus driver, identified by Higgins as Jeanna Knowels, was shaken up from the incident, but physically seemed fine, according to Schofield.
"We will continue to encourage her to go be checked out and make sure that's she's ok."
There was no immediate word on the condition of the truck driver. Oakwood Police are handling the accident investigation.
