Suwanee explores possibility of Town Center Park expansion, website overhaul

SUWANEE — City leaders in Suwanee are exploring the possibility of expanding Town Center Park, an idea spawned at the city council's annual retreat.

"(The city) happens to own some property behind the library off of Main Street. It's often referred to as the 'delay site,' and we're looking to master plan that. It's also an idea that was within our downtown master plan," said Marty Allen, City Manager.

City council members will begin putting those plans in motion in 2016, though Allen said it will be a multi-year process.

"We decided not to begin in earnest this year. We would begin master planning it and begin setting aside funds for implementation of it. We need to do some master planning to begin to understand the scope and scale of costs," said Allen.

He said that's probably the most "intersting and exciting" project that came out of the council retreat in Young Harris.

"We also looked at some operational things, such as taking a look at a complete overhaul of our website. We'll be looking at improving the usability and the functionality of our city's website, (and) make it more mobile-friendly," said Allen.

Allen said one of the other items they're considering is expanding the municipal court building adjacent Town Center Park.

"(We will) undertake a 'space study' and look at some of our facilities ... and see how we can best accomodate the long-term needs of the court," said Allen.
