No election needed for Clermont Town Council, two qualifiers are unopposed

No special election will be needed to fill two posts on the Clermont Town Council, as two qualifiers — one for each post — put their names in by the Wednesday afternoon deadline.

Sandra Helton, town clerk, said in a phone interview that Margaret Merritt and Doug Myers submitted qualifying papers this week.

They will fill the Ward 2 post and an At-Large post.

Joe McGoogan was elected to the At-Large post November 3, but died two days later.

Ward 2 incumbent John Brady chose not to run for re-election last year but no one qualified to seek that post in the November election.
