Boys basketball: White Co. knocks off Lumpkin Co. to sweep season series

DAHLONEGA — White County outscored Lumpkin County 38-24 in the second and third quarter to overcome an early deficit to beat Lumpkin County 69-55 Saturday in a non-region contest at the Lumpkin County gym.

The Warriors (11-4) trailed 18-14 after the first quarter. But they held down a potent Indians offense to grab a 35-30 haltime lead and then extend the lead to 52-42 heading into the fourth quarter.

White County swept the season series against their rivals.

John Ward paced White County with 22 points. Whit Mauney added 20 and Brad Hurst 13 pointd for the Warriors.

Brandon Zarate paced Lumpkin County (12-3) with 19 points. Jack Howard added 17 for the Indians. The duo had been averaging nearly 50 combined points over their past four games. 

Lumpkin County will jump back into Region 7-AAA playingbhost to Dawson County on Tuesday. 

White County will travel to Riverside Military on Friday.
