The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series made its second trip of the season to the East Alabama Motor Speedway Phenix City, Ala., as Chris Madden and Randy Weaver scored victories in a pair of 40 lap features at the 37th Alabama State Championships, with Weaver taking home the title of Alabama State Champion.
In Saturday night action, Weaver, of Crossville, Tenn., set fast time in qualifying and set the pace early in the race, as he built a lead over the rest of the field. Meanwhile, Madden, Austin Smith, Clint Smith and Dylan Ames all battled for the second spot, with each taking the position at one time in the race.
Madden was finally able to retake the second position, and then began working his way back to Weaver as the leader encountered lapped traffic. Madden caught and then passed Weaver on the outside and then went on to get his 46th career win with the series,
Weaver finished second, with Riley Hickman in third, Austin Smith in fourth and Clint Smith in fifth.
On Sunday, Weaver dominated the day, as he set fast time in qualifying and led all 40 laps to get his 31st career series win. The battle behind Weaver was between Madden and Jason Hiett, as these two swapped second back and forth several times. In the end, Madden took the second spot, with Hiett in third, Riley Hickman in fourth and Dylan Ames in fifth.
After Sunday’s race, Weaver and Madden were tied for the Alabama State Championship. East Alabama Motor Speedway officials put the duo in a two lap match race to determine the title winner. Weaver came out on top and crowned the Alabama State Champion.
The next event for the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series will be on Saturday, October 24 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.
