Driver identified in fatal Oconee County crash

BOGART - Authorities have released the identity of the second person killed in a fiery crash in Oconee County last week.

Georgia State Troopers identified the male driver as 24 year old Stephen Edward Crimmins of Winder. Troopers said Crimmins was the driver of a Jeep Patriot that fled from Oconee County Sheriff's Deputies on September 14.

According to an email from the State Patrol, deputies attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle on McNutt Creek Road when the Jeep turned off its headlights and fled, failing to stop at the intersection of McNutt Creek Road and Georgia 316.

The Jeep reportedly traveled in to the intersection and struck the passenger side of a trailer filled with rolls of paper that was pulled by a semi-truck. The Jeep was pulled under the trailer of the truck and was dragged down the road, eventually burst in to flames and ignited the trailer.

On Friday, the passenger was identified at the GBI crime lab as 20-year-old Jessica Katherine Cannon of Braselton.

Both Cannon and Crimmins were identified by dental records.
