Charges pending in fatal Lumpkin Co. crash

By B.J. Williams

CUMMING — Investigators with the Georgia State Patrol in Cumming said Monday afternoon that speeding might have been the cause of a one-car accident that killed a 19-year-old Dahlonega man Saturday night in Lumpkin County.

The GSP said Robert B. Giffen, III was the front seat passenger in a car that ran off Camp Wahsega Road and hit a tree around 5:50 p.m. Saturday. Giffen died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle was 20-year-old Jarrett Ball of Dawsonville. Daniel Matzke, 19, of Dahlonega was a passenger in the back seat of the Toyota Scion. Both men were seriously injured.

Depending on the findings in the investigation, charges could be filed against the driver.
