Volleyball: GHS finishes 3-1 at Athens Academy meet

ATHENS — The Gainesville girls volleyball team went 3-1 at the Athens Academy playdate on Saturday.

The Lady Elephants improved to 19-6 on the season with the wins.

Gainesville opened with loss to Morgan County 25-21, 25-22 and then rallied froma set down to beat Habersham Central 14-25, 25-18, 15-13). The Lady Red Elephants followed with a 25-15, 25-16 win over , Atlanta International and a 25-12, 25-20 victory over Winder Barrow.

Sydney King had 47 digs, six aces, and six assists, Savannah Roys had 64 assists, 20 digs, and eight kills and Tanai Watson added 29 kills and 27 digs for Gainesville. Caroline Mercer added nine digs, Tango Miller had seven kills, and Bessie Winston had 21 kills and three digs for the Lady Red Elephants.

Sally Callahan added 12 digs, Cori Griffith had 10 kills, Anna Wylie had nine blocks, Ashley Filson added three digs, and Emily Sloan had five blocks.

Gainesville next will play host to a pair of Area 8-AAAAA matches on Tuesday against Lanier and Salem.  It also will be Senior Night where seniors Sally Callahan and Morgan Frazier will be honored.
