UPDATED: Early morning fire destroys Gillsville home

By B.J. Williams

GILLSVILLE — Hall County Fire Services investigators say a fire at a house on Gillsville Highway near Athens Highway early Thursday morning was accidental.

Deputy Fire Chief Chad Black said fire crews were called to the scene around 3:45 a.m. and found the 1,500 square-foot house fully involved in flames. He said the house sat at the entrance to a mobile home park; the owner of the park apparently lived in the home.

The total damage is estimated at around $100,000.

Black said no one was injured.

"(Our) investigators have determined it was accidental and have the cause narrowed down but not willing to say at this point the 'exact' cause," said Black in an email.

He added that the homeowner's dog was located later Thursday afternoon, but unfortunately another pet was unable to escape the home.
