One injured in Forsyth Co business explosion

CUMMING—One person was treated for "very minor" injuries following an explosion at Rubber Polymer Company in western Forsyth County Wednesday morning.

Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers said the 911 call came in around 11:30 a.m.

"When our units first arrived on scene, we did find evidence of a small explosion or 'flash fire' of some sort," said Shivers.

The built-in fire extinguishing system at the business was able to knock down the flames before firefighters arrived.

"There was a minor injury that occurred to one of the employees ... That individual was treated on scene," said Shivers.

The victim refused to be taken to a local hospital.

"I can't say a lot about those injuries, but I can say they are ones that are commonly associated with a flash fire," said Shivers.

No roads had to be shutdown to deal with the cleanup, which was already in the final stages shortly before 1:00 p.m.

"We've been ventilating the structure to try to get all the fumes and gases out so that it's safe for our investigators to enter and make a good determination of what actually happened," said Shivers.

Rubber Polymer Company, located on County Line Road, manufactures various forms of rubber.
