Volunteers fill backpacks with meals for Gainesville, Hall students in need

By Russell Brown

GAINESVILLE - Last week, employees of Wells Fargo Advisors Gainesville and Braselton branches came together to pack 225 backpacks with food for underprivileged families.

The backpacks were delivered to underprivileged students throughout Hall County and Gainesville city schools on Friday.

Vice President of Wells Fargo Advisors, Lance Carpenter, said, "The backpacks contain enough food to serve a family of five a total of seven meals each over the weekend. In total, the 225 backpacks represent 1575 meals for 1125 individuals."

During the school year, students are given two meals a day, but Carpenter, who works with Backpack Love on a regular basis, said "This allows them the ability to take food home for them and their families."

Along with stuffing the backpacks, Wells Fargo Advisors also donated $1000 to Backpack Love.

Backpack Love is a division of the non-profit organization Straight Street Revolution Ministries. Weekly during the school year Hall County volunteers pack and deliver backpacks to underprivileged students in Hall County and Gainesville City schools.
