Officials break ground on company expansion in Oakwood

OAKWOOD - State, local and company officials celebrated the beginning of a food distribution facility expansion project in Oakwood Thursday morning.

Performance Foodservice - Milton’s is building a new 174,000-square foot building on 43 acres of property adjacent to its current operation at 3501 Old Oakwood Road.

According to the parent company, Performance Food Group, Inc., the new building will include a freezer, meat cutting operation, maintenance areas and space for fleet operations.

Following the completion of the building, crews are expected to convert Milton's existing freezer into a three-zone cooler section.

Shelly Davis, Vice President, Existing Industry, for the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, said the expansion shows the company's faith in the people who work at the Oakwood facility.

"Any business decision really comes down to do you have the people to make it happen, and they do," Davis said.

She said Performance Foodservice - Milton’s currently employs about 500 people in Oakwood.

"They'll be hiring somewhere around 60 more, and by the end of next year, they'll have about 500,000 square feet under roof."

Davis said the Oakwood site is one of the largest and highest impact among the company's 34 U.S. locations.

"It really shows their faith in the location itself as well."

The company has already begun clearing the property and is slated to complete the building next year.

Dave Flitman, President & CEO of PFG’s Performance Foodservice business segment said the expansion will enable continued growth into the future.

"We are proud of our Milton’s team, which has done a great job growing their customer base with both multi-unit and independent restaurants over the past several years."
