Canon woman airlifted after wreck in Stephens County

TOCCOA - The Georgia State Patrol has released details of a two-vehicle wreck near Toccoa that resulted in one woman being airlifted for medical care Wednesday night.

According to Trooper 1st Class John Crawford of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa, a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 27-year-old Brittany Danielle Foster of Canon was traveling east on Cawthon Road.

After stopping at the stop sign at the Toccoa Bypass (Georgia Highway 17), Foster's vehicle failed to yield right of way to a 1999 GMC C6500 rollback truck driven by 46-year-old Randy Dale Miller of Clarkesville, Crawford said. That truck was traveling south on Georgia 17 in the left lane at the time of the collision, around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The truck struck the Equinox in the driver's side, trapping Foster. Emergency personnel had to cut her free from the vehicle. She was flown to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Miller was not hurt.

Seatbelts were in use on both drivers, Crawford said.

Two children in the vehicle, ages 5 and 7, were shaken but not hurt, Both were properly secured in child safety seats.
