Drought conditions return to N. Ga.

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

UNDATED — Drought conditions have returned to north Georgia with "abnormally dry" conditions showing up in several counties from near Gainesville to Rome and Dalton.

The U.S. Drought Monitor says most of Lumpkin, White and Habersham counties are included; all of Stephens, Rabun, Union, Towns, Fannin and Gilmer; and parts of Pickens and Dawson counties.  The same is true for most of northwest Georgia, as well, with pockets of "moderately dry" conditions in that area along the Alabama line.

Elsewhere drought conditions can be found in east central, southeast and southwest Georgia, with "severe" conditions in several places along or near the Florida line.
