Jackson Co. car fire sends two adults and one child to the hospital

PENDERGRASS—Two adults and one child are in the hospital a car fire Friday on I-85 near highway 129 in Jackson County.

According to Jackson County EMS Director Steve Nichols, a woman in her early 20s was pulled from the burning car with third-degree burns covering 70 percent of her body "with severe traumatic injuries" and taken to Grady Hospital in Atlanta.

She is listed in critical condition.

A girl, 6, was taken to Grady with second-degree burns, and a third victim in described as a person in their late 20s was taken with minor injuries.

Nichols said both of them were in stable condition, and all three were taken there by ambulance.

At last report, one southbound lane of the interstate was still shutdown as crews work to clear the scene.

The accident happened shortly before noon, and the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident. All investigators know at this point is that the car flipped over in the median of the interstate, and subsequently caught fire.
