Whalen family announces Hope Fund in memory of late business leader

GAINESVILLE — On the day of his memorial service, the family of Gus Whalen has announced the creation of the Gus Whalen Hope Fund at the North Georgia Community Foundation.

According to a press statement, the fund will continue to support Whalen’s charitable interests in education and community service in the area. Whalen was a longtime philanthropist and community leader in Gainesville and Hall County.

Whalen is the former CEO of Warren Featherbone Company. After the company was sold in 2005, he founded Featherbone Communiversity in the company’s manufacturing facility. Featherbone Communiversity houses educational and business development programs.

Whalen died on Sunday, June 21 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center at the ago of 70.

Founded in 1985 by Lou Fockele and other business leaders, the North Georgia Community Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the spirit and quality of life in the Northeast Georgia community by building, managing and awarding charitable grants from a pool of community funds valued in excess of $50 million.
