UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — Lee McCoy's first-ever PGA Major tournament came to a disappointing end Friday.

McCoy fired a pair of 74's in the opening two rounds to miss the cut by just three strokes.

The former Habersham Central and current Georgia Bulldog standout started strong on Thursday sitting at 1-under par through the first four holes. But a triple-bogey on No. 7 undid his good early work. He managed to get through the rest of the opening round with a respectable 2-over to finish at 4-over and within striking distance to make the cut in his first PGA Tour event.

The cut was 5-over par.

Friday's round started with a bogey on No. 11, his second hole, and he birdied  No. 12 to get back to 4-over for the tournament. A double-bogey on No. 15 to go with a bogey at No. 17 sandwiched around a birdie on the Par 4 16th left him at 6-over heading into the final nine holes.

McCoy was still in contention with the projected cut at 4-over par at the time. He got to 5-over with a birdie at No. 2 but bogeys at Nos. 4, 7, and 9 knocked him out of contention.

No. 7 was his nemesis. McCoy was 4-over in two rounds on the Par 4, 506-yard hole.

However, he finished just one stroke behind defending U.S Open champion Martin Kaymer and another former Bulldog standout and two-time Master’s winner, Bubba Watson, who both also missed the cut.
