Air quality alert issued for metro Atlanta area, parts of N. Ga.

By Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) As the weather heats up, state environmental officials say poor air quality could lead to respiratory issues in sensitive groups.

The National Weather Service said the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division has issued a code orange air quality alert for the metro Atlanta area on Wednesday. That does include Hall County and other parts of north Georgia.

Officials said outdoor air could cause breathing problems in some people. People with heart and lung issues should limit the amount of time they spend outdoors in the late afternoon and early evening when ozone levels are highest. Parents are encouraged to keep small children indoors during that time frame, as well.
