Cherokee County inmate dies in custody

By Associated Press

CANTON, Ga. (AP) Sheriff's officials in north Georgia say a county jail inmate has died while in custody.

Cherokee County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said in a statement that 71-year-old Bobby Kilgore of Palmetto died Monday after being housed in the jail's medical unit. Baker says Kilgore had a previous medical condition and had been in custody since June 6.

Baker says Kilgore was in jail on a probation violation and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy.
