LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) Gwinnett County fire officials are offering tips to prevent injuries and deaths linked to children being left alone in hot cars.
Officials said in a statement Thursday that the temperature inside a car on an 80 degree day can rise by as much as 20 degrees in 10 minutes and cracking the windows don't help.
Officials say drivers should never leave children alone in cars and should make sure doors are locked to prevent children from getting inside unattended cars on their own.
Fire officials say drivers should also remind themselves of children in the backseat by putting other items they'll need at their final destination such as a brief case a cellphone in the back seat with the child.
