Police: Wrong-way driver on Ga. 400 wanted to kill herself

By Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) Police say a woman who drove into oncoming traffic on Ga. 400 did so on purpose in what they say was a suicide attempt.

Multiple news outlets reported Monday 67-year-old Patty Ann Cressaty drove against traffic in the emergency lane of Ga. 400 southbound Sunday morning. She struck the concrete median before setting off a fiery three-vehicle crash near Lenox Road.

A witness saved Cressaty, pulling her from the burning wreckage. She was critically injured. The drivers and a passenger from two other cars were also injured. At the hospital, authorities say she was able to tell a doctor she was attempting to kill herself.

Authorities say Cressaty has been cited for reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road. She remains in the hospital.
