Johns Creek inmates will be housed at Lumpkin Co. Jail

JOHNS CREEK — Inmates who are arrested in Johns Creek in north Fulton County will now be housed in the Lumpkin County Jail.

The Johns Creek City Council voted this past week to enter into an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office after they got word from the City of Pelham that it would no longer accept inmates from John's Creek.

Mayor Mike Bodker says the agreement with Lumpkin County will be a money-saver for the city. The IGA will provide services for a per diem fee of $35, according to information on the Johns Creek web site.

In addition, Bodker said the agreement would be helpful for families of inmates, since Dahlonega is only 40 miles from Johns Creek, while Pelham, located in south Georgia, was a 4 1/2 drive from the city.
