GHS Baseball state championship series pushed back

GAINESVILLE—The Gainesville High School baseball team's State Championship series against Greenbrier High School has been moved.

The Red Elephants will travel to Evans, Ga. (near Augusta) for a double header on Memorial Day. Game 1 is set for 3 p.m., with Game 2 follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.

A third game, if needed in the best-of-three series, would happen at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Greenbrier.

The original schedule called for a double-header Saturday with game three Monday, but Greenbrier is holding its graduation ceremony on Saturday.

That announcement was made Wednesday.

The Red Elephants are gunning for their first state championship since 2002 and will be making their first title series appearance since that time. Gainesville also won state championships in 1949, 1978, 1996-98 and 2001-02.
