Victim of Sunday's tragedy on Yonah identified

CLEVELAND - White County Coroner Ricky Barrett has released the name of the man who died after falling on Yonah Mountain Sunday afternoon.

Barrett said the victim was 43-year-old John Hebenstreit of Braselton. 

Hebenstreit slipped on a rock and fell about 100 feet, Barrett said. Medical personnel attended to the victim, but he succumbed to the injuries.

The call was dispatched during the 2 p.m. hour with the fatality confirmed after 5 p.m.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said the man was on an outing with his family.

About 15-20 White County, Helen and Cleveland emergency personnel were involved in the operation, along with a Department of Natural Resources
helicopter.
