North Ga. theft ring busted in multi-county effort

GAINESVILLE - Mutliple law enforcement agencies assisted in the arrest of three people accused in multiple break-ins and thefts.

Shane Parker of Chatsworth, Mistie Watkins of Ellijay, and Burton Edwards of Chatsworth all pled guilty to the various charges they face in connection to 24 break-ins in Gilmer, Murray, and Fannin Counties over the last year.

Authorities say the trio targeted vehicles at forest trailheads, but also broke into several homes during the crime spree, which involved selling drugs and stolen guns.

Parker and Edwards will combine to serve more than seven years behind bars.

Police ask the public to avoid these crimes be leaving valuables at home if you're planning on taking a hike, and making sure you park with your trunk facing away from wooded areas.
