MONTGOMERY, Ala. - R.S. Senter rocketed to the lead on lap eight of Saturday night’s “Show Me The Money” Pro Late Model series feature at Montgomery Motor Speedway and didn’t look back, as the Oakwood, Ga. native scored the victory at the Montgomery, AL speed plant.
Bobby Knox Jr. started the feature on the pole with Dennis Reno, Jr. along side. Reno jumped out to the lead on the initial start with the rest of the field in hot pursuit. Reno would hold the top spot until lap 8, when Senter took control.
The caution flew on lap 31 when Branden Curren spun, making contact with the frontstretch wall. On the restart, Senter would retake the lead, with Reno and Korey Ruble in pursuit.
Ruble would see his night take a bad turn on lap 52, when a flat tire brought him to a stop on the backstretch, bringing out the caution.
The action would be halted again on lap 58, when contact from Hunter Spivey sent Oliver Chase hard into the turn one wall, bringing out the red flag as safety crew attended to Chase. Fortunately, he was not injured, but the same could not be said for his race car.
The yellow flag would come out again a few laps later, when Reno and John Bolen tangled, sending Reno hard into the wall. Reno’s night was over.
Back under green, Senter continued to pace the field, while Bolen worked to hold off Ruble for the second position.
But up front, there was no catching Senter, as he drove away to score the victory. Bolen held on to finish in second, with Ruble in third, Brett Holmes in fourth and Flowery Branch, Ga.’s Dalton Grindle in fifth.
Luke Christian, Bill Bethea III, Perry Patino, Bobby Knox, Jr. and Justin Wakefield rounded out the top ten.
In other action, Joe Hudson made the move on Perry Patino to take the lead on lap three of the Interstate Batteries Late Model Sportsman feature, and went on to score the victory. Over the closing laps, Hudson had to work hard to hold off Brad Edwards, but Edwards was unable to take the top spot away, and would have to settle for second. Shelby Reuse finished in third, with Larry Speakman in fourth and Travis Cleckler in fifth.
The Street Stock feature wrapped up the night’s events. Chance Atkins took the lead away from Charles Davis on lap 2, and would hold the spot the rest of the way to score the win. Dwayne Wesenberg tried several times to take the lead away from Atkins, but in the end could do no better than second. Joe Bethea, Jr. finished in third, with David Wood in fourth and Davis in fifth.
Montgomery Motor Speedway will be back in action on Saturday, May 9, featuring the Modifieds of Mayhem tour in a 50 lap race, along with features for Late Model Sportsman and the Modified Minis.
