Suwanee City Council approves $25K sidewalk project

SUWANEE - Residents in Suwanee can expect to see new sidewalk projects along Smithtown Road and gaps along Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road following a vote taken by the Suwanee City Council Tuesday night.

The contract, which is not to exceed $25,000, was awarded to Clark Patterson Lee, an architcture firm that has an office in the Suwanee Town Center.

"(The project) is all along the length of Smithtown Road, roughly from Suwanee Elementary to Satellite Boulevard," said Marty Allen, City Manager.

Construction dates are still to be determined.

"This phase of the project is to determine which side of the road it's going on, the width of the sidewalk that's most appropriate, and getting us an accurate cost estimate before we go to a final design," said Allen.

The vote was approved unanimously.

This type of motion, however, is not necessarily put out to a "lowest bidder" like other types of government work.

"This is professional service, so we do (it on a) qualifications basis," said Allen.
