Driver charged in serious-injury crash near Lula

By Rob Moore

LULA - A Lula man has been charged in a Saturday night wreck that left a Jefferson man badly hurt.

Trooper 1st Class Brodie Forrester said 27-year-old Steven Smith has been charged with driving under the influence, serious injury by vehicle and failure to maintain lane.

The wreck was reported at 6:57 p.m. Saturday on Belton Bridge Road at Pea Ridge Road.

Witnesses told troopers Steven Smith's Chrysler Town & Country was weaving all over the road as it traveled east off Pea Ridge Road.

As a Jeep Wrangler driven by 23-year-old Gary Smith of Lula negotiated the curve on Belton Bridge Road at Pea Ridge Road, it was sideswiped by the van, Forrester said.

Gary Smith and his passenger in the Jeep, 24-year-old Corey Dyer of Jefferson, were ejected as the Jeep overturned multiple times, Forrester said.

Dyer suffered head trauma, with his condition unknown Sunday.
